Orquestra de Falcões

Baile-show / Orquestra de Falcões emerged in response to the cancellation of Porto Alegre's Carnival in 2018, following cuts to the public funds allocated to the celebration.
Developed for the 11th Mercosul Biennial, in 2018, in collaboration with Caio Amon, the project brought together Filipe Catto, Valéria Houston, and members of the Imperatriz Dona Leopoldina samba school.
Music, performance, costume, and audiovisual record were articulated as a collective structure capable of putting back into circulation a cultural manifestation temporarily silenced.
By relocating carnival into the context of the biennial, the work brings celebration and political conflict into proximity and asks what happens when an art institution comes to shelter what no longer finds room in the city.
