In Olympia, Romy Pocztaruk follows cities that have hosted Olympic Games in order to observe the urban transformations produced by large events.
Stadiums, pools, villages, circulation structures and sports facilities are conceived to receive an intense period of competition, broadcast and international visibility.
After the games end, however, many of these spaces lose their initial function or come to operate under conditions different from those that justified their construction.
The photographs move away from the triumphant image of the event.
Instead of athletes, crowds and ceremonies, the series dwells on the architectures that remain: worn surfaces, empty interiors, idle equipment and constructions that oscillate between monument and premature ruin.
What was announced as legacy and prosperity appears as a landscape in which obsolescence was already inscribed in the very rhythm of modernization.
